Determine Type

There are three primary types of yachts on the market, which are monohulls, catamarans, and trimarans. Monohulls are the more basic style and probably the most affordable. Catamarans are capable of getting closer to shore thanks to their shallow drafts, but they tend to be more expensive. Trimarans are used for racing more often than anything else, but all three of these yacht types make good live-aboard boats.

Consider Size

The size of the yacht you buy will depend on where you plan to boat, how many passengers you need space for, what your budget is, and where you’ll store the yacht when you’re not using it. It’s important to think carefully about how large a yacht you need. Yachts may be as short as 35’ in length or they may be up to 160’ long. A yacht that is longer than 160’ is usually called a “superyacht.”
